Setting a goal in life makes everything easier. You work towards it and once complete you feel happy. Some people create short term goal whilst other create long term and there are some who integrate the two together (creating short goal to help lead into their long term goal). The hardest part about setting your goal is choosing the right ones for you, your goal isn't going to be the same as your friends, you have to create them yourself and in this article I will explain how you should choose the right goals to focus on.

Setting your goals in nothing more than a formal process for personal planning. By setting goals you are deciding what you want to achieve and using your goals as stepping stones to lead you towards your dream.

By knowing what you want to achieve in life you should have an idea of what you want to concentrate on. For example, if your dream is to become a big business man then your goals should lead to it; starting up a business, creating a new product, selling it in its masses, create more products etc.

Your goal should focus on what you want to achieve, you want it to give you long term vision but you also want it to provide you with short term motivation to make sure that you keep at it which is the most important factor. If you ignore your short term goals and dive headfirst into your long goal you will most probably fail because of the lack of motivation. Motivation is a key factor and that can only be achieved by short term goals as they tell you that you are getting closer to your goal.

When setting your goals you need to focus on setting clear and defined goals. For example, you can't tell yourself that you want to make around $30,000. No! You want to make $30,000 not around. If your goals aren't clear you will never be able to take any real pride in the achievements.

Setting your goals will give you confidence and meeting those goals will motivate you for the next one and give you a sense of achievement.

To recap you need to:

  1. Make a long term goal
  2. Break it down into simple, clear and defined goals that get bigger every time
  3. Go through the goals becoming motivated and getting that sense of achievement
